Reasons for Failing Vehicle Inspection 【Brake System Oil Leakage / Hydraulic Hose Rupture or Swelling】

Under the Hong Kong Transport Department’s annual vehicle inspection, the braking system is treated as a critical safety component. If inspectors detect brake fluid leakage, or find hydraulic brake hoses that are ruptured, cracked, or swollen, the vehicle may be classified as having a serious defect.
These issues can indicate internal hose deterioration, aging rubber brake lines, loose connections, or heat damage. Even if braking performance feels “normal” during daily driving, such defects pose a sudden brake failure risk and will not be tolerated during inspection. Vehicles that fail may be required to undergo repairs and a re‑inspection before licence renewal.
✅ Tip: Always inspect brake hoses, brake fluid levels, and connection points before inspection—especially on older vehicles or those parked outdoors. Early replacement can prevent inspection failure and, more importantly, ensure driving safety.
