Under the Hong Kong Transport Department’s annual vehicle inspection, the braking system is treated as a critical safety component. If inspectors detect brake fluid leakage, or find hydraulic brake hoses that are ruptured, cracked, or swollen, the vehicle may be classified as having a serious defect.

Giving your tyres “just a quick look” and thinking they’re fine? Under Transport Department annual inspection standards, if two or more tyres have insufficient tread depth or if the structural layers (steel cords) are exposed, the issue will be classified as a serious defect. Once deemed unqualified, the vehicle may be considered an immediate safety risk.
