Common Reasons for Failing Government Vehicle Inspection【Insufficient Tyre Tread Depth】

Giving your tyres “just a quick look” and thinking they’re fine?
Under Transport Department annual inspection standards, if two or more tyres have insufficient tread depth or if the structural layers (steel cords) are exposed, the issue will be classified as a serious defect. Once deemed unqualified, the vehicle may be considered an immediate safety risk.
It’s not only tread depth that inspectors look at. Uneven wear, excessive inner‑side wear, sidewall bulging, or age‑related cracking can also be judged unsafe. These issues are especially common in vehicles that are rarely driven, parked outdoors long‑term, or have older tyres.
✅ Before inspection, remember to check all tyres (including rear tyres). Don’t replace just one tyre “to pass the inspection” — safety is always more important than saving money.
