Driving Safety Tips on Slippery Roads

Safety is the top priority when driving on slippery roads. Here are some driving safety tips to help drivers reduce risks and protect themselves and others:

1. Slow Down

Slippery roads reduce tire traction and increase the risk of skidding. Slowing down gives you more time to react and shortens braking distance.

Reduce speed before turning and maintain a consistent speed throughout the turn.

2. Keep a Safe Distance 🚘

Maintain a longer distance from the vehicle in front—at least twice the distance needed on dry roads. This helps avoid sudden braking and reduces the risk of rear-end collisions.

3. Avoid Sudden Braking and Sharp Turns

Sudden braking can cause loss of control or skidding. Steer gently and maintain stable handling. If your vehicle starts to skid, avoid sudden acceleration or braking. Instead, gently press the accelerator and steer forward until the tires regain traction.

4. Turn On Headlights 🔦

Improve visibility and make it easier for other vehicles to see you in low-visibility conditions.

5. Check Tire Condition

Ensure your tire tread depth is sufficient and tire pressure is normal. Poor tire condition significantly reduces traction on wet surfaces.

6. Avoid Using Cruise Control

Using cruise control on slippery roads may lead to loss of control. It’s safer to manually control the accelerator and brakes.

🌧️ Slippery roads are common during heavy rain or typhoons. Pay extra attention to mountain roads, tunnel exits, and waterlogged areas on highways.
